Memorabilia inspirational altered mini album in a box using washi tape with video by Cheri Piles

This is a fun fun fun inspirational motivational album/home decor piece. I was so INSPIRED by this new collection and I LOVE all of the papers, I wanted something I could showcase in my home using this new line! I have had this tray by 7gypsies for over two years waiting for the right project "to come to me" and this was it. I am so pleased how well it turned out.

 You will be able to see and learn in the video below that this is put together using WASHI tape!!! Yes, I know right?!?  So if you don't watch video's there's a little how to at the end of the post for you!

 When you are creating your own album be sure to keep the heavier items towards the tray so your try does not tip over when you have it sitting out.

 I used just about everything from the new collection. I'm just so excited about it all... NEW layered stickers, oh hello... sequins, how about brass colored brads?!? Yes, Love those!! I cut and layered, Pop dots are my new best friend, In this book I have gone crazy with them! and the great thing is that they will not get "squished" over time because it's not your traditional book!

Dream big!! Love it! Such a fun piece don't you agree? Oh and I almost forgot, don't you just love a FANTASTIC chalkboard line? 

Here's a little how to using the tray as I did, if you use a different tray then just adjust measurements accordingly.
Measure the inside of your tray and create a "base" template from white card stock, my base was 11" x 6"
Cut page bases with white card stock - I measured the width of my tray to determine the size of my pages. My page bases were 5"w x 6"t. Corner round the outside corners of your white base pages.
Draw a line across the width every 1" on your base template.. This line will become your base page guides.
Lay your first base page on the first line, lay your washi tape 1/4" overlapping your base page and base template, wrap your washi tape around the back, you will need to trim away the washi tape from the 1/4" strip part before you wrap it around so your page will "flap" back and forth. Overlap your washi tape pattern from edge to edge on your page template (covering all the white from the base template).  Do this until you get to the edge.
Flip your page and do the same process, overlap a 1/4" on your base page and template, working from the back of page one towards page two overlap your washi tape again to cover the center of the white.
Lay page 2 base page on the 2nd line and add your washi tape.
It ended up that I used three strips of washi tape between each page and they overlapped beautifully as if it were one large strip!
Continue working your pages and washi tape. When you are complete, add another decorative strip of washi tape in the center between each page to give the book balance.

Clock project using Summer Stories by Cheri Piles

Ok, I admit it.... I have an addiction to making clocks!! I'm going to have to start giving them away soon!! For this one I used the Assemblage Clock from Tim Holtz idea-ology. It is just a raw clock casing - You need to add your own clock mechanism. I added mine by drilling a hole in the back of the casing and the back comes off and on like a lid on a pan. Which is how I was able to "FILL" it up. :)

I loved the "Our Story" banner die cut and I was determined to use it in a fun project where I would get to see it often. I cut a strip and layered it on the (flowers side b) black tiles paper strip. Then adhered them to the outside of the clock.

I used the numbers from the back side of the bingo paper (yellow dots with black numbers paper - using the 6x6 paper pad). I luckily had a little circle punch that was the perfect size for the mini numbers and adhered them using pop dots. Depending on the length of your clock mechanism is how much depth you can add to your clock. My mechanism was about halfway between the glass and the base.

I layered a couple of die cuts to hide the clock opening and part of the stem. I think it also gives the clock a little more eye candy! Then I just added some flowers from my stash, a few buttons from the collection and some enamel dots. I love this clock so super fun!!

Guest Designer Alissa Fast with a great altered box album project!

I'm Alissa Fast and I live in Ferndale, WA with my husband of 26 years and our sweet little cat, who happens to be a Hurricane Katrina Survivor from New Orleans. I work full time for a wireless carrier and in my spare time I scrapbook and dabble in photography, I'm working to build up a small client base in my area.

I created this project with the new Summer Stories collection from a framed box at Marshell's. The pages are 6x8 to easily add photos. There are bags to hold "stuff" and I included the stitched journal from the collection to write things in. I see this as something I can just drop photo's and stuff in during the summer and can come back to finish the pages later. It's like a loose leaf mini book!

I have been on the Cocoa Daisy Design Team for just over 2 years and joined the Evalicious Design Team in January this year. Most recently, I have joined the new Life Documented Design Team at Simple Stories.

When I'm not scrapbooking, or working, I enjoy spending time with my husband or my mom or my sweet little great niece and nephew.

I loved working with the new Summer Stories line. The colors and designs are beautiful and work well with many themes. Thank you, Teresa for having me as your guest designer.

Altered Book - June thankful journal - Days 6-10.......by julie jacob

Happy Monday!  And happy belated Mother's Day to all the moms & grandmas out there! :)

Today I am continuing with a project I shared on National Scrapbooking Day.

It's an altered book, which I turned into a gratitude journal for June.

You can find the tutorial for making the cover, pages, and days 1-5 HERE.

Today I want to share days 6-10. :)

Day 6:

1.  Cut a piece of Summer Stories (SS) Flowers paper 4x7.5".  I assemble my page and THEN glue it into the book.  Way easier, as this book is NOT a lay flat book. :)  

2.  Cut the colored, lined index card from the Memories (M) Ledger card paper.  Stamp I am thankful at the bottom, and adhere.

3.  Add a strip of gold glitter scallop border beneath.  Adhere chipboard LOVE pennant to top right, and the 'notes' SS die cut above the date on the index card.  

4.  Stamp the date and add a gold 6 (Thickers).

5.  Glue whole piece into the book, then add black camera washi tape to left edge.

Day 7:

1.  Adhere 'You & Me' SS die cut to top of book page...leave room at the bottom to slide notebook paper underneath.  I kind of already decided this would be an 'I'm thankful for us' page.  

2.  Cut a piece of M Ledger Card paper (white ledger side) 3.5 x 5.5".  Slide under you & me and adhere.

Add US pennant.  Stamp I am thankful on SS Filigree paper (woodgrain side) and adhere.

3.  Add chipboard button, SS enamel dots & the 7 (Thickers.)  

4.  Stamp the date and add the gray ruler washi tape to the bottom of the page.

5.  I used my McGill tab punch and M Calendar paper (pink chevron side) to make the top tab.  The numbers are from the Memories chipboard pieces.  The back of the tab has the 8 on it.

The next two pages.

Day 8:

1.  Cut a piece of M Subway Calendar paper (gray dot side) to 3.5 x 6.5".

2.  Add the Remember die cut M piece.  Cut the 8 from the SS Bingo paper (yellow numbers side) and adhere.  I sewed beneath the remember...again, before you glue it into the book. :)

3.  Add the die cut SS Just Because piece to the bottom.

4.  Adhere the pennant, and stamp the date on it.  Stamp I am thankful above it...then punch out Love This circle from the M Dots paper.

Day 9:

1.  For this page I used the second to largest M file folder.  The one with the different ledger cards on it.  There's lots of room inside for journaling, or adding a picture or two.  

2.  Add a 1 3/4" strip of SS Stripes paper (pink dot side).  I sewed on mine after adding the other elements.

3.  Add the Story 3x4 card from the SS Cards paper.  Punch a large gold glitter heart and add.  Stamp I am thankful at the bottom right corner.

4.  Adhere the yellow Love and pink pennants to the top left corner.  Stamp the date above the Story card.

5.  Punch the clock from the M Dots paper and tuck in on right side.  Add the yellow brad to the center...then the chipboard button and enamel dots.  Last...cut out the 9 from the SS Bingo paper (yellow numbers side) and adhere.

Day 10:

1.  Punch out the fleur de lis ledger piece from the M die cut sheet.  Add the good times strip.  Then stamp the date beneath.  Stamp I am thankful at the top.  Adhere.

2.  From your scraps of paper, punch several (I did 9 using a Martha Stewart punch) medium butterflies.  

Adhere over the page...Add enamel dots to some butterflies...also the M 10 chipboard piece to another.

There you go...the first 10 days of June!

Happy National Scrapbooking Day!!

Hi everyone!  Julie here, and I'm hoping you have lots of time for creativity today. :)

In addition to the Summer Stories Collection pack give away, I have a tutorial for you today.

I love altering old books.  Awhile back, I participated in 30 Days of Lists and shared the altered book I did on my blog.  I made another one using Summer Stories, Memories, and little bits of Teresa's other lines...and here's the fun 'how to' for NSD, so you can make one too! :)

Fun, right?  :)

1.  First things first.  Find an old book.

The Thrift store or Good Will...garage sales...all good places to find them.  I think mine cost fifty cents.  Be picky.  Look for one with a nice spine & an appropriate title (I don't cover the spine)...check for water damage and stains...or inner pages used as a coloring book.  I have even been known to sniff the inner pages to make sure they don't smell funky.

2.  Each of your inner pages...is actually several pages glued together.  As it would take forever to glue every page of the book together...feel free to cheat a little.  Every few pages or so...I ripped out a few pages.  Now there's not so many pages to work with.  Don't make it hard...there's nothing exact about it...just start ripping here and there.

It will look like something like this.

3.  Determine how many pages you want in your book.

My book is a thankful journal for June.  June has 30 days.  I'm going to use front and back...so I need at least 15-16 pages.  This helps in determining how many pages to glue together...to make one page.

4.  Make your inner pages.

This is the easy part.  It's also the most time consuming.  All you really need is a glue stick.
REMEMBER:  You do NOT need glue on every inch of the page.  As long as you get most of the top, bottom, and side edges...and a smidge in the center...you are good!
You'll get really fast at it by the time you're done, I promise.  Keep gluing pages together until you have the thickness you want for one page.  Keep doing this until you have all your pages done.  Smooth them out as you go...from the front, and after you flip the page.

You can also sew pages together to make a page.  Or use your stapler.

Hint:  Fold down half your pages diagonally from the top right corner, and make a pocket page.

5.  The cover.

  

I used Summer Stories (SS) and Memories (M) for most of the book.  Cut a piece of SS Flowers paper to fit the front of your book.  Be sure not to cover the bendy part.

Cut a rectangular piece of SS Filigree (wood grain side).  Sew around the edges.
Hint:  Be sure you put together the front piece before you attach it to the flower paper with pop dots.

Adhere a small round doily to the wood grain paper...then add the Memories (M) calendar grid piece (I covered the grid with SS Damask (print side)...then I sanded the edges.

Using my old typewriter, I typed out '30 days of thankful' on white cardstock...then adhered it to the top left on the chipboard piece.  Adhere the SS yellow pennant border piece below it (trim it to size first).  Add the pink number border on top of the yellow piece.
Next, add a strip of SS gray chevron washi tape.

Adhere Thickers to spell June (or whatever month you choose).  Punch a small gold glitter heart and add to top left corner.  I added a small cluster next to June...a SS brad (I actually glued this on with a heavy duty liquid glue - Quick Grip), button & enamel dot.  The 'always' in the bottom left corner is from Memories...the die cut sheet.  Last, I stamped the date below June with a date stamp.

Finally, adhere the whole piece to the flower paper with pop dots.

Next, tuck in the top elements:  the SS 'beginning' tab, button, and ticket from the border strip.
In the upper right corner, add 2 SS die cut pennants...with the 'smile' piece on the top.  I sewed above it.

Adhere the whole piece to the book cover (again, I used the Quick Grip).  Let dry for a bit and sand the edges.  Done!

Inner Cover:

Confession.  When I ripped the very first page out of the book (a blank extra one)...it wasn't a very good rip.  In fact, it was really messy.  So I cut a piece of SS Bingo (yellow numbers side) to fit inside.  It was still messy looking in the center binding part...so I added some Far & Away grid washi tape.  Voila!  No evidence of the messy rip.  :)

Next, add the calendar grid die cut from the M die cut sheet.  Stamp the 'everyone has a story to tell' using the SS stamps.  I used VersaFine Smokey Gray ink.

Add a large 30...I used wood veneer numbers found at Michael's.  I inked them pink and adhered them.  Next, add a strip of the pink pennant border.  I stapled it a couple of times at the edge.  Add 'days' with Thickers...then the M 'keepsake' brad.

Last...I had to fill in the month and year at the top.  I just couldn't leave them blank.

So I used a small set of alphabet stamps...and stamped JU for June.  Then I realized JU could be June or July.  Duh.  Upon deeper thought, I realized it would have to be June because there's 31 days in July.  Whew.  I stamped 13 for the year and adhered the whole thing to my inside cover page.

Page 1:  (I did the first 5 pages of the month...I'll share more later ;)

Cut a piece of SS Ephemera (gray side) to fit inside your book.  Mine is approx. 4.5 x 7.5".  My 'I am thankful.' stamp I made with my TC Stampmaker.  It's easiest to make the page, and THEN glue it into the book.

Stamp I am thankful in the upper left corner.  Add M crown washi tape underneath.  Stamp date below the washi.  Add a die cut SS pennant in upper right corner & staple at the top.  I punched a butterfly from the SS flower paper and added it over the pennant with 2 yellow enamel dots.

Add the M bicycle die cut to the bottom right corner.  Use Thickers to spell out june 1.

Adhere the page into the book...I used Quick Grip.  Leave room at the top for the M sticker number tab.  Only use half...you'll want the back of the tab to have a two on it for the June 2 page.  Adhere tabs to top right corner.

Here's the next 2 pages.  Lots of room for journaling what you're thankful for that day. :)

Page 2:

Cut a rectangle to fit your book from the SS Flashcards (pink stripe side) paper.  I adhered a He Said envelope to the pink paper, and used a M die cut 'My thoughts' card to put inside.  Add the photo ticket from the border strip.  Punch a medium heart from gold glitter paper and adhere to bottom right of the envelope.  Stamp a 2 in the number blank.

Adhere the whole thing to your page.  I wanted some of the text from the book to show.

Stamp I am thankful at the top directly onto the book page.

Add the SS 'this day is perfect' chipboard piece below the envelope.  Finish with a strip of He Said ruler washi tape, and stamp the date.

Page 3:

Cut a piece of SS Stripes (the dot side) to fit your book.  I added a library card from my stash.  Adhere a strip of SS chevron washi tape across the bottom.  Add the 'today' chipboard piece, and stamp the date onto the library card.  Next add the SS ledger tag brad with a 3 (Thickers).  Stamp I am thankful in the bottom right.

Glue page into book.  I added a couple of staples.  Don't worry about them showing through on the other side...you can always cover them with paper.  I added a piece off SS washi tape...take note.

Page 4:

I cut a narrower piece of M Tags paper (gray ledger side) and stamped I am thankful at the top.

Punch a large heart from the SS gold glitter dot paper and add to bottom right corner.  Stamp the date in the bottom left.

Add the SS 'love this so much' sticker above the stamped date...and a 4 next to it.

Add SS pink scallop border sticker below I am thankful.  Adhere a few enamel dots, and you're good!

Page 5:

Cut a narrow piece again of M Filmstrip paper (diagonal stripe side) and stamp I am thankful in the bottom right corner.  Add the M gray dot scallop border sticker above it...trim off extra and save.  Adhere Documented sticker next, and stamp the date above it.

Glue page into book and add wood veneer 5 (Michael's).  Add a little strip of She Said pink washi tape to the top.

Whew!  You made it!  Only 25 more pages to go.  ha ha :)  I will have to post those later...
