Altered box tutorial with Cheri Piles using the new collection Hello My Name Is collection by Teresa Collins

Hey everyone!! I am so excited to share this with you today!! This is a little project I made for the CHA booth using the new collection "Hello My Name Is".  I've had a lot of people ask me what my favorite of the new collections is and that's a hard one to answer because I LOVE them all for different reasons.

This collection inspires me to share my story. This project I made is for my daughter to share her story, where she is now in life and I can't wait for her to write in it!!

FIRST, I want to share with you how I MADE this box into a book!!

ok, so I'll start from left to right - the first photo shows you that it is a craft colored, Graphic45 matchbook box. They come in three sizes and this is the middle sized one (8x8). The second photo shows the box that slides out and I cut the left side off!! Then I just cut the right side of the frame on the outer box which allowed it to open. NOW when you SCORE the left side you need to know that this will become your "SPINE", don't cut all of the way through as it will ruin it so go slooooooow and take your time. And last but not least create a template for your binding rings. I cut a strip the same height as the box and then folded it in half and used my cinch to create the holes where they needed to be. Then I spray painted it all in bright white. YOU could cover it in paper, mod podge it, what have you. Right now I'm just loving white paint on everything so there ya go! :)

So now you need to figure out how to fasten it closed. Starting from top left - I used one of the foam squares from the Teresa Collins Adhesive kits Those black foam squares are super dense so they are perfect for this!! So poke a hole where you want your "knob" add a foam square to one of the largest brads - by adding the foam square it will give the brad some height and because the legs of the brad are so long it will go through both the foam and the cover as shown in picture two (top right). Ok, so now you need to adhere your ribbon to the inside of the outer box line it up with your knob so it will close correctly. Then Adhere the smaller box on top of your ribbon lining up the top and bottom of the boxes evenly. Now when you close the book you can wrap the ribbon around your knob!

I loved the "words" paper so I cut strips and used them as my "staple" throughout this book. Have you seen the new photo overlays????? I love the sayings on them!! I added one of the new GEMS on the decorative tape. This page is actually 12" wide - I folded it to create a flap page!

This is the flap page. I cut a strip of journal cards and added them to the flap page by folding them then tied them together. So when untied, they fold out like an accordion.

Here is the page all folded out - I used a photo on the back of the flap then added a journal card and ephemera piece on the side I am going to have her journal.

This is one of the new 4 x 6 journal cards from the "love" paper - I love these!! I added some decorative tape to the left and a clear gem to the top center of it, So so simple!

Ok, at first glance you may not recognize ALL that you are looking at here so I'm going to point it out... That is a 5x7 photo overlay, but I ONLY had a 4x6 photo! Well, no  problem they don't have to be only for your photos. I added a piece of card stock to my page, added my photo then added my photo overlay. (sorry, It's hard to photograph them!)

This is the back page and I love all of the layers for journaling!!

I think this is my "FAVORITE" overlay!! ok, pun intended! Seriously though I do LOVE it!!!

I thought this was a fun page to share - the top paper is called "tags" and the bottom paper is called "Polaroids". Again - a great place to add more photos if you like or just use as journaling spots.

Here's another page with an accordion tag fold out tied with ribbon. I liked all of the layers in this book!! I hope you are as inspired as I am!!

When you are all done with your pages use your template from earlier to punch your pages. Add your cinch rings from the inside down on the right side of holes and up on the left, add your pages then pinch them together and your done!!

You can see here how the spine looks! So, go create one of your own! They are a fun to make and it's something you will treasure!!

CHA Booth Setup Day Two

Today is the second day of booth setup for CHA Winter 2014 here in Anaheim California. This weather is so wonderful after all of the blizzards happening in Utah lately. I love being here with my daughter Gentry and all of the people I work with. I feel like I have the the most wonderful people working and supporting me. I feel so thankful and blessed.
This is Cheri Piles my design team lead and I walking into the convention center yesterday.

Excited to get our passes and start setting up.

We are booth number #2515 so come and visit us if you are coming to the show!

Setting up in our booth is a party!

Sean is my Sales Director and has been so Wonderful! He is the muscles behind the booth getting set up. Here he is putting all of the crystals on the chandelier. However, he is the most amazing sales person. He believes in me and gets my crazy passionate obsession to design. He has taken my company to another level in a economy that struggles. How blessed to have a thriving company and honestly, I need to give credit to Sean and so many people who have made this possible. I always say... it takes a village.

Gentry uses any opportunity that she can for some photos. She is so much like me! She has actually opened her own Etsy shop designing prints that she sells at youaremyhappyshop.etsy.com. I am so glad that she gets to come to all of the shows with me and help me so much.

Last night we got to go to dinner with Matt and Kayla and the kids and it was so fun! I miss seeing them all of the time. I know it sounds bad, but I want them to move back to Utah! Kayla is definitely such a cute pregnant woman. She is coming to visit the show on Saturday.

I can't believe it's already time for CHA. Make sure you visit the CRAFTWELL booth and see what I have designed and do the amazing make n take that will be from 12:00- 1:00 and again in the afternoon.
Also, TONIGHT is my workshop at TIMELESS TREASURES. I am so excited to see my friends. Okay... got to get back to decorating and designing the booth.

Hello My Name Is Cards with Tessa

Hi!  I love all the new releases but the one that I couldn't wait to unwrap was the Hello My Name Is collection!  The bold colors, the words, the typewriters!!  I love it all!  Once I started, I didn't want to stop creating with this collection and today I have three cards to share:

Typewriter Hi Card 2

I used the 12x12 Hello My Name Is patterned papers for these cards.   The prints are great for cards- not too big!  I've added the names in parenthesis as I chat about them so you know where I found each piece.   The journaling cards also work well for cards- they make a great focal point.  I used one of the polaroid cards (Polaroids) for this one.  I stamped the damask image first with kraft colored ink and then splattered a bit of gray mist over it.  I added some of the polka-dotted washi tape next.  I cut out the typewriter (Noted) and stamped the 'hi' with some alphabet stamps I found in my stash.  I added it to the polaroid with a foam pop dot.  Lastly, I added some linen thread around it and finished off the look with a few sequins and a decorative brad.

Typewriter Hi Card 4

The typewriters are too cute!  I can't get enough of them and I'm SO glad they decided to include one in the stamp set!!  You'll see that in my next card:

Stamped Hello Card 1

I wanted to create a clean looking card using the stamps so I started with a plain white card base.  I added the scalloped border sticker next.  To stamp the 'hello', I had to cut one of my stamps-  since it's clear, you can fit it back together on an acrylic block or use them separately.  You could just ink up the 'hello' part if you don't want to cut it, too!  Anyways, I stamped 'hello' with black ink next and then stamped the typewriter next to it in a dark red shade.  I decided to add a little sparkle to my simple card and splattered it with some pearly white mist.  I added some sequins to accent my stamping and then added the linen thread.

Stamped Hello Card 3

Isn't that typewriter stamp cute?  If you love typewriters like I do, you'll love this next one too- I used the adorable typewriter decorative tape on it!!

Live With Gratitude Card 3

I used another journaling card (Love) as part of my background this time, cutting it to fit my card front.  I tucked a little strip of the floral photo overlay under the top portion.  I added the decorative tape next and then stamped the ornamental shell design in black just underneath.  I splattered a little gray mist next and then added my focal point.  I chose this journaling card (Record) and cut it into a heart shape.  I added it to my card front with foam pop dots and embellished it with two beautiful gems.

Live With Gratitude Card 2

It feels so good to start the year off with a few cards- one of my resolutions is to send at least one card each week of the year.  I'm so glad I could share them with you all!!

Thanks for joining me today!!
